Sahuarita Times: Businesses Come Out in Support of Rancho Sahuarita Cancer Walk

Businesses and organizations throughout Southern Arizona are coming together to support Rancho Sahuarita’s Cancer Walk, which will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Carondelet Health Network, which has been a part of the Southern Arizona community for over 130 years and has a primary care facility in the Rancho Sahuarita Marketplace, will serve as the presenting sponsor for the event. Other sponsors committed so far include Diamond Ventures, AAA Landscape, Territorial Sign Company, Maracay Homes, GEO Advertising and Marketing and Fidelity Investments.

Dr. Sipos MD, FAANS, FACS with Carondelet Health Network says, “We at Carondelet are very pleased to support the first Rancho Sahuarita Cancer Walk and the goals of raising awareness and research funding for cancers affecting the brain. I have had the privilege of treating many patients affected by brain metastases and primary brain tumors over 27 years. This experience has been life-changing for me as I have gotten to know so many courageous patients and families affected by brain tumors. Any progress we can achieve in funding brain tumor research will affect the lives of countless people.”

The walk will take place within the master planned community, around Sahuarita Lake, and will kick off at 9:00 a.m. The event is open to the public, and gives the local community a special opportunity to come together and unite around one common goal: finding a cure. With that in mind, members of the community and the surrounding region are invited to attend, participate and pledge their support. All proceeds from the walk will benefit the National Brain Tumor Society, and will go to fund ground-breaking research at many of the top institutions throughout the country.

In addition to the businesses that have pledged sponsorship support, other local businesses are getting involved in other ways. Companies throughout Sahuarita and the greater Tucson region have agreed to promote the walk. Key running and athletic groups are helping to spread the word amongst their customers and members. They are also encouraging their employees and their families to form teams and join the cause on event day. Brain tumors strike adults and children of all races at any time of their lives, and are often deadly. The leading cause of cancer-related death for children under the age of 14, brain tumors cannot be prevented. Currently, there is no cure. Rancho Sahuarita has been a supporter of the National Brain Tumor Society in the past, and in 2017 plans to raise a goal amount of $250,000 through efforts with the walk.

On the day of the walk, registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by commencement of the opening program and walk at 9:00 a.m. Special speakers, select children’s entertainment, music and giveaways will also be present at the event. The registration cost is $25 for adults, (and includes a t-shirt), and children ages 16 and under must register, but can participate for free.
