Remembering September 11th, 2001: Local Residents Unite for Commemorative Ceremony in Rancho Sahuarita

On Sunday, September 11th in the early morning, the team at Rancho Sahuarita hosted a special event for residents at the Armed Forces Tribute to commemorate the 21st anniversary of September 11th. Community residents united to pay their respects and reflect, and witnessed a Flag Folding Ceremony by local vets, an invocation and a 21-gun salute by the Marine Corps League, Brian A. Terry Detachment #1126, and light refreshments. The Lady Titan Honor Guard was on site the presentation of the colors, while resident Ronald T. Nicolas played a powerful rendition of Taps. Commandant for Detachment #1126, Mitchell “Mickey” Miramontes, served as the guest speaker, and Rancho Sahuarita’s very own Event Coordinator, Charlize Diaz de Leon, moved all in attendance singing “God Bless America”.

Miramontes shared his thoughts on the event and its significance to him saying: “Thank you, Rancho Sahuarita for the opportunity to pay tribute at your 9/11 Memorial Ceremony and Patriots Day.  We’ll never forget the events that took place 21 years ago in New York City, Washington DC and Pennsylvania. Lives were impacted forever and history proves that we stood united amidst the chaos.”

He continued: “The ultimate sacrifice was paid by many. Without them our Nation would not be what it is today. I thank God that such men and women answered the call to preserve our freedoms and way of life. Semper Fidelis! Oorah!”

Jasmine Creason, Lifestyle Director for Rancho Sahuarita shared, “This morning was an opportunity for our residents to pause and reflect, and to remember the lives lost that day. It is an honor to be part of such an important event, and to be able to work with veterans and active-duty members to make it happen. Coming together to remember those lost each year is something our community truly values, and it is a privilege to be able to honor their memory.”
