On Saturday, March 30th, 2019, Rancho Sahuarita will host its second “Rancho Sahuarita Cancer Walk” event to benefit the efforts of the National Brain Tumor Society through the Sharpe/NBTS Brain Cancer Research Awards. Northwest Healthcare, which is building an acute care facility in the Sahuarita Town Center, will serve as the presenting sponsor for the event.
The awards, which are designed to fund groundbreaking research all aimed around finding a cure for brain cancer, have thus far helped to fund crucial projects at ten of the top institutions in the country. This year, the funding efforts of the walk will go to benefit the awards again, enabling researchers at these institutions to continue this important work.
The 5K 2019 Walk will talk place around Sahuarita Lake, and will include music, food and family-friendly entertainment on site. The walk is also a great opportunity for families to commemorate those they know who have battled brain cancer, which is an affliction that can strike adults and children of all races at any time in their lives. The leading cause of cancer-related death in children under the age of 14, brain tumors cannot be prevented and there is currently no cure for this devastating condition.
Members of the community are encouraged to attend the walk, or participate by helping to raise funds and spreading the word. Many businesses and organizations are slated to support the event as sponsors, including Fidelity Investments, GEO Advertising and Marketing, Alliance Bank of Arizona, Territorial Sign Company and Fry’s. iHeart Media is the media sponsor for the event.
On walk day, registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. before the event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. Registration tents will be set up, where participants can either check in and get their t-shirt, or sign up day of. The registration cost is $25 for adults (which includes a t-shirt). Children under 18 must register online, but are able to participate for free. Participants are also encouraged to form teams and to register early, and be a part of making this special event a success.
