Northwest Hospital Coming to the Sahuarita Town Center

Northwest Healthcare has announced their plans to construct an acute care facility in the Sahuarita Town Center, just south and east of Sahuarita Rd. and I-19.

The new facility, which is part of the healthcare provider’s “No Boundaries” expansion strategy, will bring 18 hospital beds, and 150 high-paying jobs to the region (with an average annual salary of $70,000). Northwest has also announced that although many of the details are still being finalized, the new facility is planned to include an emergency room and two operating rooms, in addition to medical offices with services including primary care, cardiology, orthopedics and general surgery.

The plans are contingent on final approval by the Town of Sahuarita’s Mayor and Council. If approved, the new hospital is expected to open in late 2019.

The new hospital is a welcomed addition to the commercial and service offerings in the Rancho Sahuarita community. The new facility will also allow for the addition of ancillary service offerings, as well as restaurants and businesses to serve the new facility’s employees and the greater surrounding population of residents.

The facility is also the next step in the expansion of the already existing offerings located in the Sahuarita Town Center, which currently includes municipal buildings, restaurants, an award-winning elementary school, a post office, public library, and an aquatics center. In 1994, visionary residents in the Sahuarita area, in partnership with Rancho Sahuarita, came together as a group to establish the Town of Sahuarita, and those first visionaries foresaw an opportunity to create a family-oriented community that would offer a lifestyle unique to Southern Arizona.

As part of this, they imagined a thriving Sahuarita Town Center, which would serve as an economic hub complete with crucial businesses and services, while also acting as a gathering place for residents to connect with neighbors and friends. Healthcare services located in close proximity to resident homes is a critical piece of this, and the addition of Northwest Hospital is a natural continuation of that vision.

Kevin Stockton, Regional President and Market CEO for Northwest Healthcare, said, “We are committed to offering convenient, accessible healthcare across Tucson and surrounding areas. This expansion will help bring that commitment to fruition and enable us to offer a variety of healthcare services beyond our traditional ‘Northwest’ footprint.”

More details and specifics on the new hospital will be released over time.

“We are thrilled that Northwest Hospital is coming to our community” said Jeremy Sharpe, Vice President for Rancho Sahuarita. “We are excited to bring important services to our residents, as well as quality, high-paying jobs. This is an important step forward in the development of our community, and a catalyst for future economic development for the region.”
