Rancho Sahuarita has been a long-time supporter of the National Brain Tumor Society and in 2017 and 2019 hosted the “Rancho Sahuarita Cancer Walk”, an event designed to benefit the efforts of the National Brain Tumor Society through the Sharpe/NBTS Brain Cancer Research Awards. In the inaugural year alone, over $365,000 was raised. Through the fundraising efforts of these walks and support of other donors, over $1 million has been raised to date.
Each year the 5K Walk took place around Sahuarita Lake, and included music, food and family-friendly entertainment on site. The walk was a great opportunity for families to commemorate those they know who have battled brain cancer, which is an affliction that can strike adults and children at any time in their lives. The leading cause of cancer-related death in children under the age of 14, brain tumors cannot be prevented and there is currently no cure for this devastating condition.
Members of the community were encouraged to attend the walk, or participate by helping to raise funds and spreading the word. Many businesses and organizations served as event as sponsors over the year including, including Northwest Healthcare, Fidelity Investments, GEO Advertising and Marketing, Maracay Homes, BeachFleischman Accounting, National Bank of Arizona, Alliance Bank of Arizona, Territorial Sign Company, AAA Landscape, Diamond Ventures, Carondelet Health Network, iHeart Media and Fry’s Marketplace.
