“I Can Bake for Kids” Event a Huge Success

Although the temperature has still been in the 90’s, one could not help but feel in a fall and festive mood as the aroma of Pumpkin Cookies and Spiced Carrot Cake floated through the halls of the Rancho Sahuarita Clubhouse.  These delicious smells were coming from the I Can Bake for Kids Class held on one recent Saturday in the La Villita Kitchen.

On September 30th, Sarah Marrs, our staff nutritionist, taught 15 young resident bakers the importance of cleanliness, safety and nutrition in the kitchen and then helped the children prepare their own delightful treats.

Each child was given their own ingredients and Sarah walked them through the steps of making the recipes. The recipes included many ingredients and the children enjoyed mixing, kneading, rolling and shaping their soon to be masterpieces.

Once the recipes were in the oven, everyone gathered around to watch the cookies and cakes rise. The anticipation of tasting their amazing baked goodness was almost too much to handle and extra chocolate chips began to disappear!

After their culinary delights were finished baking, the children were excited and proud to taste their cookies and cakes and share them with their families. Recipes and extra dough were on hand so that families could whip up the tasty treats at home, as well.

Thank you to all the up and coming bakers that attended, we hope you enjoyed your morning and we look forward to seeing you at more of these events in the future!
