Residents driving along Sahuarita Road on Monday, February 18th saw a beautiful display. Thanks to the efforts of the Madera Sunset Rotary Club and the Boy Scouts of Troop 301, American flags will be placed along the street for each patriotic national holiday this year. The project, called “Avenue of Flags” will include a total of 50 flags which the Boy Scouts will help to secure in cement bases on 5 days of the year. These holidays include Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day. The project was also made possible thanks to the resource and financial contributions of its main sponsors; one is which is Rancho Sahuarita.
The flags, which are placed along Sahuarita Road from Town Hall to in front of the Rancho Sahuarita Marketplace, help Sahuarita to launch a tradition that takes place in other cities, including in Green Valley. The Rotary Club saw the opportunity to create an “Avenue of Flags” for Sahuarita as a “statement for national pride, patriotism, and culture. “ It is their hope that the tradition will carry on in the community for years to come.
