Recently the Lifestyle Department at Rancho Sahuarita, in partnership with the United Way of Southern Arizona, held the second annual “Special Needs Water Park Day”. This event, which was open to both residents of the community and their guests, offers parents and families of special needs children the opportunity to enjoy the water park before it is opened for use by other residents. The event was a huge success last year, prompting the teams of both organizations to bring it back again.
The Special Needs Water Park Day is just one of many programs and events for special needs offered in the community. A group called P.A.L., or the “Parents.Advocates.Leaders. Club”, which is affiliated with the United Way, meets regularly, organizes, and puts on events such as the Water Park Day, a special Easter Egg Hunt, pictures with Santa, and a private Pumpkin Patch around Halloween in the fall. Additionally, a new group has begun meeting at the Rancho Sahuarita Clubhouse on a bi-weekly basis. The Tucson Alliance for Autism Support Group meets to provide support and information for families with children, teens, and young adults in the community living with autism.
Rancho Sahuarita also works collaboratively with entities, like the United Way, to support broader community initiatives and programs. These include things like the “Sensory Playgroup” and the Special Olympics Young Athletes Program.
